This gave us a chance to try out our new mobile petting zoo – just unveiled for this event! Everything was going so well until right at the very end when we brought Emma, the mini horse out to play with the children. Poor li’l Calie, the mini donkey, just couldn’t stand being in the petting zoo alone with the two crazy goats – she needed the company of another equine. So…..she “hopped” over the fence, crushing the top in the process. Well, thank goodness she didn’t skewer herself on the PVC spikes – nope, they just broke off!

Girl Scouts Earn “Horse Fan” Badge

Yesterday, we had a Junior troop up from Pacific Beach to earn their “Horse Fan” badge. The girls need to complete 6 of the 10 activities listed in the badgebook, so it makes for a really long, and fun day! We worked on the activities that needed to be done at the barn first. The workbook they receive from Kids Horsin’ Around has a program for completing all the necessary activities, however if time runs late, they can complete some of the activities later (such as “Horses through History” – they are given all materials to complete this activity at a future troop meeting.)

This troop also opted for a riding add-on. Actual horse back riding is not a requirement of the “Horse Fan” badge. (Girls wanting that aspect of horsemanship can earn the “Horse Rider” badge.)

While I’m trying to sort out the details as to what exactly that is (guess I should have figure that all out before I made that commitment, eh?!? Because I still can’t figure out what I am supposed to be doing! Do I just re-post other horse blogs onto this blog site? A little help would go a long way! I’m willing but just don’t understand what you want me to do! ( I’ll go ahead and post this on this site, since you’ve asked for an explanation, which is what I’m asking for! )

What happened to the June issue of Carnival of Horses? The Blog Carnival (along with others like myself promoting it), posted that you were to host it on June 1. But after checking for 2 days I still do not find the carnival posted.

Would appreciate a posting to at least explain what has delayed your being able to follow through on your agreement to host.

Two Sister Race Around The World

This is good for balance and confidence, and besides, it’s fun!!

You must have a helper to hold your pony and watch out for you while you are learning this exercise. When you can go “around the world” using your hands, try it “no hands” with your arms folded. You can have “around the world” races just like these two sister did!

Be careful not to kick your horse when you’re doing this! This is so popular with the kids. They also love to go “half way around the world” and then have an instructor leading the horse with them riding backwards! Have them do that with their eyes closed for a really neat perspective on riding!!

The day before the “big event” our riders were busy cleaning tack, washing horses, and practicing last-minute “posting on the correct diagonal” – for a couple of young riders, this was to be their very first show! Everybody was so excited! And to add to the excitement, there was going to be a Halloween costume contest during lunch break!! And the costumes were so cute and creative!!

And, now… here it is!!

When the Workin’ Day is Done…a Little Horse Play

When the working day is done…a continuation of what to do during “down time”…..

So bring on the entertainment!!! As you can see, some love to entertain us, i.e. Emmy, the little pinto miniature horse is a real ham when it comes to jumping. Flash and Zim, well…we know from past experiences how they love to free jump and run around.

Tango is not really into it. He jumps very well, but really doesn’t want anything to do with this three-ring circus. He keeps coming up to me saying, “help, help, save me!! Get me outta here!”

Harley, the big baby, doesn’t really know how to jump, yet. But he does try a few times. Still, he’d prefer to stick close to me, if he can.

Jessika, still sidelined with her foot up, coaches the horses over the jumps!

A nice ending to another wonderful day in paradise!
