First ever Saturday Junior Camp was a total success! Camp runs from 9am to 3pm, with two rides; one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The rest of the time, the kids learn how to lead, groom and tack a horse. They also get to muck (they love this after they get over their first obligatory “ooouh, gross!”), and feed the horses. They learn how to take a pulse and respiration read; listen to the heart and gut sounds; estimate weight using a formula and measurements.

Mucking can be FUN!!
They make a collage of themselves dressed in fancy riding clothes cut out of magazines; decorate a frame to put their picture of themselves and horse in, and learn major conformation parts of the horse.

Fun with the minis
This group’s favorite thing to do was groom the minis, and lead them around or hand graze them in our lush, green, soon-to-be-gone, spring grass. I would have to say, the minis really enjoyed the attention!
Speaking of minis….

Max & "Mini-Max"
Here’s Max and “Mini-Max” (Emmy); look at the size of the saddle on Emmy!! I have never seen such a tiny saddle (and it’s a really nice one, too!!)
Jessika thought this would be a cute photo! (She’s holding Emmy.) Sweet!
Why don’t you jump on and go for a ride, Jessika?

Very good article, I love animals myself, I’ve been interested in animals from a very young age and this article was really interesting.
